Recently, the Barisan Nasional government announced the lifting of restriction on travel by Malaysians to China, and by the way this government announcement was publicized, it would appear to be a major breakthrough in the full normalization of relations between Malaysia and the People’s Republic of China. General Elections may be held in November after the Prime Minister’s China trip

General Elections may be held in November after the Prime Minister’s China trip.

There are indications that the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamed, may be seriously considering calling snap general elections after his China trip in November. If this happens, then it will be the first time in Malaysian history when general elections are held at the end of the year. In May last year, when the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Home Affairs, Datuk Musa Hitam, went to Medan to sign the Malaysia-Indonesia Supply of Workers Agreement to regulate the flow of Indonesian workers into Malaysia, Datuk Musa explained that the agreement was intended to head off growing local resentment of rush of immigrant Indonesians who entered Malaysia illegally.
