I have given notice to Parliament that I will raise the matter of the shooting of two innocent women tappers, Lee Lai Mai, 26, and Wong Yue Kew, at Kampong Ribai, Kuala Kangsar, by security forces on 27.5.1974 at about 4 a.m. while they were cycling to their morning tapping. On my way to this rally, I heard about the news that the government has approved a further diesel price increase e of eight cents a gallon, bringing the retail price to $1 a gallon. Before Tun Razak made his six-day visit to the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Michael Chen, the Minister of Special Functions, said that the problem of the 300,000 stateless persons of Chinese origin have been satisfactorily resolved in the diplomatic negotiations between Malaysia and the People’s Republic of China. Call on Kumpulan Guthrie Sendirian Berhad not to interfere with freedom of worship of Malaysians and to stop its attempt to take over the Kovil Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, at Bukit nanas Estate, Negri Sembilan

I have received representations from the workers of the formerly Guthrie-owned Bukit Nanas Estate, Negri Sembilan, that the Kumpulan Guthrie Sendirian Berhad is trying to evict the management committee of the Kovil Sri Maha Matiamman Temple at Rasah Road, Seremban by the appointment of a now committee, nominated by the Kumpulan Guthrie and the Chemara Research Station management. Ministry of Primary Industries has assured that oil and diesel prices would not go up in the next three months

DAP Secretary-General and Member of Parliament for Bandar Melaka, Mr. Lim Kit Siang today issued the following statement

In a local press (Nanyang Siang Pau) it was reported that the Ministry of Primary Industries has assured that oil and diesel prices would not go up in the next three months.

This is a most unsatisfactory assurance, for it not only does not solve the present diesel shortage crisis in the country, but clearly indicate that Malaysians would most likely have to suffer a third oil price increase within a period of one year following the first oil price increased in December last year. Education, whether the primary, secondary, or university education, should be made freely accessible to the people who can benefit from Poverty should not be a barrier or obstacle to a student continuing or doing well in his secondary or university studies, as it is very much so today. On 9th May, 1974, when the Minister of Primary Industries, Datuk Haji Talib Mahmud, called a press conference to announce government approval for oil price increases, he said that the government would only permit the increase of five cents for kerosene, from 71 cents a gallon to 76 cents a gallon.
