Role of State Sub-Committees

Role of State Sub-Committees

I attach a copy of a circular to all DAP MPs/SAs.

I am very concerned about the standard of constituency service of our MPs/SAs, I am equally concerned about the lack of supervision and direction on this very important matter by the State Sub-Committees.

The State Sub-Committee is the highest party organ in the state, and one of its important tasks should be to see to the faithful performance of constituency services by our MPs/SAs in the state. Unfortunately, this aspect of the duties of the State Sub-Committee has been gravely neglected. Continue reading Role of State Sub-Committees

Fragmentation of the Suffolk Estate, Sitiawan

The Member of Parliament fro Bandar Melaka, Lim Kit Siang, today issued the following statement:

Fragmentation of the Suffolk Estate, Sitiawan

The Minister of Labour, Tan Sri V Manikavasagam, has many times, inside and outside Parliament, declared that the Alliance Government is opposed to fragmentation of estates because of its adverse social effects in creating unemployment and causing hardships and suffering to estate workers. Un-fortunately, these words do not seem to be accompanied by deeds.

I refer to the illegal fragmentation of the twice-sold Suffolk Estate near Sitiawan. When the 1,158-acre estate, which originally employed 243 workers, was first sold in 1969, 157 workers were retrenched while some resigned. Continue reading Fragmentation of the Suffolk Estate, Sitiawan

Socialist International Council Conference in Helsinki

Speech by Secretary-General of Democratic Action Party, Lim Kit Siang, at the Socialist International Council Conference in Helsinki on May 25, 1971

First of all, I wish to take this opportunity to personally, as well as on behalf of my party, to thank the Socialist International, the International General Secretary, Comrade Janistchek, and the sister parties of the international for their close concern and deep interest over my detention by the Malaysian feudal-compradore Alliance government immediately after the 1969 general elections on May 10, which saw my party, the Democratic Action Party, standing for the cause of democratic socialism, emerged as the strongest opposition party in the Malaysian Parliament and with the most number of elected State Assemblymen in the country.

It was a source of great comfort and encouragement to me during the 17 months I was under arbitrary detention without the benefit of an open trial, to know that outside the four walls of the detention camp, I had not only the support and solidarity of millions of Malaysians, but also of the Socialist International and its affiliated parties. Bekok State by-election in Johore

Bekok State by-election in Johore

The Bekok state by-election campaign is a week-old. We stand an even chance of winning the state seat if we can concentrate our national manpower and resources in the constituency.

The stakes involves in Bekok are not merely local or even of State interest. They are of great national importance and significance, both for us in the DAP and for the Alliance, and in particular the MCA.

If we win in Bekok, it will mean a vindication and endorsement of our party stand in post-May 13 Malaysia and in Parliament over the Constitution Amendment Bill. Continue reading Bekok State by-election in Johore

DAP Calls for more sympathetic approach by Minister of Education

MCE Failures: DAP Calls for more sympathetic approach by Minister of Education

The DAP is shocked at the unsympathetic and inflexible attitude shown by the Minister of Education, Inche Hussein Onn, towards the 7,500 failures in last year’s MCE Examination because of failure in the compulsory Bahasa Malaysia paper.

Inche Hussein Onn has refused to allow those who would have qualified to proceed to Form Six if they had passed the Bahasa Malaysia paper to enter From Six with the proviso that they repeat the MCE Bahasa Malaysia paper at the end of the year.

All that Inche Hussein Onn would undertake is to ‘do his best’ to retain them in Fifth Form classes ‘if enough places were available’. Continue reading DAP Calls for more sympathetic approach by Minister of Education
