Recognition of China and admission into U.N

Speech by DAP candidate for Serdang State by-election, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, who is also the DAP Organising Secretary, at seventh DAP Serdang by-election rally at Serdang Bahru new village on Sunday, 15 December 1968 at 8.p.m.

It is ridiculous that Malaysia, a nation of 10 million people, does not recognise Communist China, a nation of 700 million people.

It is dangerous when Malaysia joins company with some discredited forces in common causes to work for the overthrow of the communist regime on the mainland. This is not only an interference with the affairs of another country, and in this case with the biggest country in the world which is to become the dominant power in Asia, but earning further her enmity and courting trouble.

But this is exactly what the Alliance government is doing.

The Alliance sent a high-level party delegation to the first conference of the World Anti-Communist League held in Taipei, Taiwan in September last year. Continue reading Recognition of China and admission into U.N

Speech by DAP Candidate for Serdang State by-election, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, who is also DAP Organising Secretary, at the sixth DAP Serdang by-election rally at Salak South new village on Saturday, 14th December 1968.

A question for Mr. Michael Chen

A week ago, I asked the Alliance candidate, Mr. Thuan Phaik Phok, whether he support the DAP stand that “land does not belong to any one race or community, but belong to the nation, and should be given to Malaysian landless, regardless of race.”

Instead of giving a straightforward answer, Mr. Thuan tried to point out that there is a contradiction in the statement. Continue reading A question for Mr. Michael Chen

At the Gerakan Serdang by-election public rally in Serdang Bahru new village last Sunday, 8th December 1968, the Gerakan Secretary-General, Dr. Tan Chee Khoon asserted that the DAP and myself have branded the people of Serdang Bahru and Salak South new villages as ‘communists.’

This is a downright lie. I have never said or thought any such thing, nor is it the view of the DAP.

I invite Dr. Tan Chee Khoon to substantiate his statement, to state where and when I or the DAP had made any such statement. Continue reading GERAKAN and Serdang By-election

New Deal for Workers of Malaysia

Speech by DAP Candidates for Serdang State by-election, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, who is also DAP Organising Secretary, at the fifth DAP Serdang by-election public rally held at Serdang Lama on Wednesday, 11th December 1968 at 8 p.m.

The workers have been one of the most neglected sections of the population in the last 13 years of Alliance rule.

This is because the Alliance government is a feudal-compradore government which has no sympathy or understanding of the suffering and hardships of the working class.

Over the years, the plight of the workers have worsened, as a result of the deteriorating economic situation, the spiralling unemployment and a steeply rising cost of living. Continue reading New Deal for Workers of Malaysia

I read Mr. Michael Chen’s speech at the first Alliance rally in Serdang Bahru two nights ago with great shock, sadness and sorrow.

I am shocked by what Mr. Michael Chen said in his speech, and I am saddened because Mr. Michael Chen, who is a very likeable man, should really believe what he said. Continue reading The MCA – Pawns of Malay racialists

Land for the landless

Speech by DAP Candidates for Serdang State By-election, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, who is also DAP Organising Secretary, at the second DAP Serdang by-election public rally held at Puchong 14 milestone on Friday, 6th December 1968 at 8 p.m.

On December 1, 1968, at the first DAP Serdang by-election public rally, I made a pledge on behalf of the DAP – known as the DAP’s Serdang Twenty Points – which spelt out the social, economic and cultural objectives the DAP will strive for the benefit of the people.

Point One of the Serdang Twenty Points called for “Land to be given to all landless, regardless of race. The only yardstick should be need.”

Malaysia has vast tracts of arable land which have not been opened up. But with every passing year, the problem of unemployment and underemployment intensifies, while the army of landless multiplies.

One major way to solve the problem of unemployment and underemployment in a land-rich country like Malaysia is to give land to the landless, which will have three beneficial results, in (1) strengthening Malaysia’s agricultural base; (2) earn more national income for the country; and (3) provide work and a means of livelihood for the thousands of landless and unemployed.
