MCA played a most odd and peculiar role Parliament yesterday when I moved a motion to cut the salary of the Director – General of the Anti – Corruption Agency to highlight public dissatisfaction at the rampant corruption, breach of trust and abuse or power in high political circles. Two national leaders, former Prime Minister, Tun Hussein Onn, and former Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Musa Hitam, have called on the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr.Mahathir Mohamed, to put an end of this period of ‘indecisiveness’ and call for general elections at once.
Tun Hussein Onn, who said that a strong opposition would be beneficial to the long-term interest of the people and nation, does not think that it would be advantageous to the Government to hold the general elections later. The 1986 Sabah Crisis

The Prime Minister, in his motion on the Fifth Malaysia Plan, asks the House “to , call upon Malaysians from all walks of life to strive harder and gear themselves towards the greater socio-economic and political challenges ahead, in the spirit of the Rukunegara, and stand united in our continuous efforts to build a socially just, progressive and resilient nation.

These are very stirring words, hut they have fallen completely flat and could evoke no response. In the past two weeks, there had been widespread and fundamental questioning as to whether the Barisan Nasional Government is committed to the building of a “socially just, progressive and resilient nation” – in fact, whether the Barisan Nasional Government believes anymore in the Rukunegara. March 25 for a three-week Parliamentary meeting. The DAP will highlight the politics of
corruption and immorality in the March opening of Parliament, for all Malaysians must

I welcome the establishment of the Malaysian Press Council by local newspaper groups which would act as a body to which the people could complain should they find that a newspaper had acted unfairly in publishing a news report.
