MCA President, Datuk Dr. Ling Liong Sik, said yesterday that he would not publicly discuss the issue of the Malaysian Chinese Cultural City as he does not want to create a ‘scare’ among the people. The claim by the MCA National Vice Chairman and Human Resources Minister, Datuk Lim Ah Lek, that the Cabinet had imposed a ban on public discussion of the MCA proposal for a Malaysian Chinese Cultural City was again exposed to be untrue when yesterday another UMNO Minister came out in the fiercest attack so far on the proposal. Liong Sik may have lost the last change to build the Malaysian Chinese Cultural City when he failed to got the Cabinet to give it formal approval on Wednesday

Liong Sik may have lost the last change to build the Malaysian Chinese Cultural City when he failed to got the Cabinet to give it formal approval on Wednesday.

A week ago, I advised the MCA President, Datuk Dr. Ling Liong Sik, that unless he presented the Malaysian Chinese Cultural City proposal at the Cabinet this Wednesday to get its formal approval, the pressures from UMNO leaders opposing the proposal are likely to mount until the MCA leadership would buckle under and abandon the proposal altogether. Liong Sik should ask the ‘top UMNO leaders’ who had ‘discussed, understood and accepted’ the Malaysian Chinese Cultural City proposal to issue a directive to stop all other UMNO leaders from issuing any more statement before it gets beyond the control of MCA leadership.

I had warned the MCA President, Datuk Ling Liong Sik, yesterday that if he does not want the Malaysian Chinese Cultural City controversy to get out of hand, and to put an immediate end to the controversy created by narrow- minded political leaders looking for issues to inflate themselves as ‘communal’ or ‘cultural heroes’, he should formally submit the proposal to the Cabinet tomorrow for official approval and make a public announcement of it.
