Call on Malaysia Government to treat all Malaysians of Post-Merdeka generation as Bumiputeras

Parliamentary Opposition Leaders, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, has called on the Malaysian Government to recognise and treat all Malaysian of the Post-Merdeka generation as Bumiputeras.

Mr. Lim was speaking to a capacity crowd of Malaysian students at La Trobe University, Melbourne, the third consecutive night he spoke to Malaysian students. The previous two nights, Mr. Lim spoke to Malaysian students in Monash University and Melbourne University. At the Press Conference in Kuala Lumpur on August 15, when I announced the formation of a DAP Save Batu Caves Action Committee under the Chairmanship holding of Batu caves Day on September 7, 1980 (coming Sunday), where Malaysian of all faith and races congregate at Batu Caves to demonstrate, by their presence, their concern for the 440 million year old national heritage and the religious shrine for 800,000 Hindus. My visit to Sarawak for five days had been a most memorable trip. Sarikei DAP Branch celebrated its 2nd anniversary with a variety show-cum-political speeches with an unprecedented crowd of 4,000 to 5,000 paying people. DAP’s mission in Sarawak in the 1980s

I am glad to be back in Sarawak after almost a year. The last time I was in Sarawak was during the last Sarawak State general elections. Although the DAP did not win a single seat – and I am particularly disappointed by the defeat of Sarawak State Chairman Sdr.Chong Siew Chiang in Sarikei – I am quite happy with the percentage of votes DAP candidates secured in the elections. Cultural Revolution without Red Guards

The Party is in the process of carrying out a Cultural Revolution – but one without Red Guards. There must be a conscious effort by all party leaders and members to bring about change of attitudes to party commitment, party responsibilities and the need to set an example of leadership to others.

Pursuant to F.SG.D. 9/80, on the need to infuse “new blood” into the Party so that the Party has more men and women of conviction to help carry out the manifold programmes and activities of Eighties, the following two decisions have been taken:

1. Further to F.SG.D 12/80 on Organisation, all branches should take note that by December 31, 1980:
(i) no branch should have less than 50 members;
