Call to DAP branches and members to prepare for early general elections

Speech by DAP Secretary-General and Member of Parliament for Bandar Melaka, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, when addressing the Malacca State DAP State Sub-Committee meeting at Malacca DAP Headquarters, 33A Jalan Munshi Abdullah, Malacca on Friday, 25th February 1972 at 5 p.m.

Call to DAP branches and members to prepare for early general elections

DAP branches and members should begin making preparations for the next general elections, which may be held as early as the latter part of next year.

Although the last general elections was held in May 1969, the Alliance Government need not call for fresh general elections until February 1976. This is because the five-year term of a Parliament is not computed from the date of last general elections, but from the convening of the new Parliament. In this case, the new Parliament was not convened until February 1971, a delay of nearly 22 months. Continue reading Call to DAP branches and members to prepare for early general elections

Creation of new DAP post

Creation of new DAP post

The DAP Central Executive Committee has created a new post to mount the political offensive which the DAP launched in September last year. This post is Secretary for Publicity and Propaganda.

The DAP CEC has been satisfied with the political progress of the Party in the last few months, when we were able to take the initiative in many fields. The most outstanding instance of course is in the field of the fight for the upliftment of the lot of the 750000 new villages.

The DAP has been so successful in highlighting the plight and 20-year neglect of the 750000 new villagers in the country, and in bringing this 20-year problem to the centre of national attention and concern, that the government was compelled to appoint a new Minister specially charged with the portfolio of new villages. Hence the appointment of Dr. Lim Keng Yaik as Minister. Continue reading Creation of new DAP post

DAP call for repeal of Sedition (Amendment) Act 1970

Speech by DAP Secretary-General and Member of Parliament for Bandar of Melaka, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, at the fifth anniversary dinner of Penang DAP held at Halomon Restaurant on Friday, December 17 1971 at 7.30 p.m.

DAP call for repeal of Sedition (Amendment) Act 1970

Penang DAP’s anniversary dinner a year ago made political and legal history and was the subject of the first sedition trial in Malaysia.
The government’s sedition laws are aimed at muzzling and silencing opposition parties, the press and the public. The government hopes that with the sedition laws, it could stifle popular dissent and entrench itself in power.

No democrat and defender of the people’s rights and interests can support such an oppressive measure. It is therefore a matter of public shock that the sedition laws had the support, not only of ruling parties like the UMNO and the MCA, but also of other opposition parties in Parliament, such as Gerakan Ra’ayat Malaysia, Parti Kemas, SNAP, Parti Islam and the SUPP. DAP to stamp out political parasites

Speech by DAP Secretary-General and Member of Parliament for Bandar Melaka, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, at the Seremban DAP Branch on Saturday, 30th Oct. 1971 before starting on his two-day inspection tour of the Seremban Timor Parliamentary constituency

DAP to stamp out political parasites

Seremban Timor Parliamentary constituency, which includes the two DAP State seats of Rahang and Sungei Ujong, is my third visit in my national tour of all DAP parliamentary and State constituencies to check on the constituency performance of Dap Members of Parliament and State Assemblymen, and to seek public views as to how DAP constituency service can be further improved.

The people had high hopes of the DAP when they voted solidly for the DAP candidates in the 1969 general elections. It is the resolve of the DAP Central Executive Committee that every DAP Member of Parliament and State Assemblymen should live up to the public expectations, and conscientiously serve the people, party and country.
