Party Rakyat’s policy in language, education and culture

Speech by DAP Organising Secretary and Parliamentary Candidate, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, at a Dap Public Rally at Klebang Kechil on May 6 at 9p.m:

At a public rally in Batu Pahat, the Secretary-General of the University of Malaya Students’ Union and brother of the National Vice President of Party Rakyat, Syed Hamid Ali, accused the DAP of being a ‘communal party’ for seeking official language status for the Chinese language.

I am not surprised by Syed Hamid Ali’s statement, because he is only repeating the Party Rakyat stand.

The Party Rakyat, which has as its symbol Sukarno’s Indonesia bull wants only one language to exist in Malaysia. Syed Hamid Ali, like his brother and fellow-members in the Party Rakyat, including Inche Hasnul, want Chinese schools to be eliminated.

This is the main reason why the Labour Party broke off with the Party Rakyat, and led to the collapse of the Socialist Front. This is why the present bull’s head minus the pen and wheel symbol of the Labour Party. Continue reading Party Rakyat’s policy in language, education and culture

Will the government clamp down on the activities of the Merdeka University and its sponsors after polling day?

Speech by Dap Organising Secretary and Parliamentary Candidate for Bandar Melaka, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, at a DAP Public Rally at Bandar Hilir Padang on Monday, 5th May 1969:

Lim Kit Siang wants solemn pledge from Tunku Abdul Rahman, Tun Razak and Tun Tan Siew Sin that after polling day, the government will not clamp down on the activities of the Merdeka University and its sponsors

I have received reports that Alliance and MCA quarters are contemplating taking action after polling day on May 10 to clamp down on the activities of the Merdeka University, and its sponsors, like Mr. Sim Moh Yu and Mr. Lu Ting Yu and others.

I know that Tun Tan Siew Sin and Mr. Khaw Kai Boh, for instance, have privately sworn to destroy the Merdeka University after polling day.

Both Tun Tan and Mr. Khaw have developed a pathological hatred for the Merdeka University, Chinese language, education and culture. But both of them are forced to contain and check their public hatred for the Merdeka University and its sponsors because of the May 10 polling day. Why is Inche Hasnul bin Hadi defending Sukarno’s persecution of Chinese in Indonesia?

Statement by Dap Organising Secretary and Parliamentary Candidate for Bandar Melaka, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, on 4th May 1969

At the Party Rakyat public rally at Tranquerah, the Party Rakyat Parliamentary candidate, Inche Hasnul bin Hadi, has defended Sukarno’s persecution of Chinese in Indonesia.

Inche Hasnul claimed that Sukarno was not anti-Chinese. Then could Inche Hasnul explain why Sukarno persecuted the Chinese mercilessly in Indonesia, and won for himself the name as the greatest persecutor of Chinese, not only in Indonesia, but in South East Asia and the world.

Instead of condemning Sukarno’s anti-Chinese persecutions, Inche Hasnul bin Hadi was only praise and admiration for Sukarno. It is clear Inche Hasnul fully supported Sukarno, who stripped the Chinese in Indonesia of their basic rights, expropriated their property, removed their Chinese names and forced them to use Indonesian names, like Rudi Hartono, the world famous badminton player, who is an Indonesian of Chinese origin, closed down Chinese schools, eliminated Chinese newspapers, and even massacred and slaughtered the Chinese. Party Rakyat’s tactics

Speech by DAP Organising Secretary and Parliamentary Candidate for Bandar Melaka, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, at the 10th DAP Public Rally at Wolferstan Road on 3rd May 1969 at 9p.m:

Last Tuesday, some officials of the University of Malaya Students’ Union held a mass rally in Malacca.

Those who attended the rally came away with one common thought: The student rally could well have been a Party Rakyat rally. The things that were said at the student rally were the same things which had been said at previous Party Rakyat rallies.

It is common knowledge that the Party Rakyat helped to organise the student rally. I also know that Inche Hasnul is trying to arrange another student rally in Malacca to help his election campaign.

This is not surprising. The Secretary-General of the Student’s Union, Syed Hamid Ali is known to me. He is the brother of Syed Husin Ali, who is the National Vice Chairman of Party Rakyat. Syed Hamid Ali is himself a member of Party Rakyat, and is in fact Party Rakyat’s chief recruiting officer in the University of Malaya. Continue reading Party Rakyat’s tactics

Challenge to Mr. Koh Kim Leng to prove what he has done in the last ten years for the people and State of Malacca when he was Senator

Speech by Dap Organising Secretary and Parliamentary Candidate for Bandar Melaka, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, at the 9th DAP Public Rally at Lorong Panjang, Malacca on 1st May 1969 at 9.30p.m.;

Before Nomination Day of Ma April 5, the majority of the people of Malacca do not know who is Mr. Koh Kim Leng. Those who know who is Mr. Koh Kim Leng invariably have the most unfavorable opinion of him, because they regard him arrogant, aloof and a society lawyer.

But this is shocking, because Mr. Koh Kim Leng had been a Senator for Malacca for the last ten years.

What had Mr. Koh Kim Leng done to serve the people in the last ten years when he represented the people of Malacca in the Senate? Had he ever come down to the level of the ordinary people, speak to them, find out their problems, try to help them? In fact, the people of Malacca tell me Mr. Koh Kim Leng was never seen in town. Even in the Senate, he is one of the ‘sleepiest’ Senators, who hardly utter a word in the Senate.

For the last ten years, Mr. Koh Kim Leng had been paid his allowance as a senator. This easily exceeds $100,000 over the last 10 years.

1969 Election Campaign issues

Statement by DAP Organising Secretary and Parliamentary Candidate for Bandar Melaka, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, at a Press Conference in Kuala Lumpur on 29th April 1969 at 12.30p.m.

1. A challenge to Mr. Khaw Kai Boh

At a press conference yesterday, the MCA National Vice President, Mr. Khaw Kai Boh, alleged that two weeks ago, I had written a letter to China Press warning it not to publish any news which are detrimental to DAP interests.

This is a downright lie. I challenge Mr.Khaw Kai Boh to stake his entire political reputation and career on this allegation. If he cannot prove this allegation, that I have warned the China Press not to publish any news detrimental to DAP, then he should step down and retire from the political arena in disgrace – as a man not fit to be a politician. If he can prove that I had warned the China Press not to publish any news detrimental to DAP interest, I am prepared to step down from the Malaysian political arena. DAP accused Alliance and MCA of having a foreigner, to direct its general elections propaganda campaign

Speech by DAP Organising Secretary and Parliamentary Candidate for Bandar Melaka, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, at the 7th DAP Public Rally at Bandar Kaba on Sunday, 27th April 1969 at 9p.m.

DAP Accuses alliance and MCA of having a foreigner, who is probably a CIA agent, to direct its general elections propaganda campaign

In the past one week, Tun Tan Siew Sin, Inche Khir Johari, Inche Musa Hitam, running short of materials for speeches and statement, have individually invented tales of foreigners meddling with Malaysian politics by siding with the Opposition.

When they were challenged to substantiate their allegations, they hut up their mouth and having nothing else to add. This clearly expose the emptiness of their allegations, which are sheer fabrications to confuse the people and discredit the Opposition. If the people are united to set up Merdeka University, the government must bow down to people’s wishes

Speech by DAP Organising Secretary and Parliamentary Candidate for Bandar Melaka, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, at a DAP Public Rally at Serdang Bahru new village on Saturday, 26th a rill 1969 at 9p.m.:

At the Serdang Bahru by-election last year, we in the DAP stressed that our country is at the crossroads of a Malaysian Malaysia or Malay Malaysia.

Since the Serdang by-election, more and more evidence have come to light to prove the UMNO’s determination to realize a Malay Malaysia, leading to the elimination of other languages, cultures and way of life.

In January this year, Dato Chua Song Lim, MCA National Vice President, ridiculed Nanyang University degrees by saying that its academic standards were too low to deserve government recognition.

What did the Serdang State Assemblyman, Mr. Thuan Phaik Phk, himself a Nanyang University graduate, say to this insult to his own degrees and those of his follow graduates from Nantah? Khir Johari unfit to look after the education of our children

Speech by DAP Organising Secretary and Parliamentary Candidate for Bandar Melaka, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, to DAP election volunteer workers at DAP Malacca Branch on Thursday, 24th April 1969 at 9.30a.m.:

Call for Inche Khir Johari’s resignation as Education Minister as he has proved to be unfit to look after the education of our children

At DAP public rallies, I had pointed out the injustice of demanding thousands of Chinese school teachers to pass the English-media Senior Cambridge examination within three years or face dismissal. I had pointed out that if Inche Khir Johari were to sit for the Senior Cambridge examination himself, he would be the first to fail.

But I had apparently over-estimated him. Inche Khir Johari confessed in Malacca yesterday, at Dewan Negeri Melaka while giving out $120,000 to 15 schools, that if he were to sit for the L.C.E examination, he would not pass also.

In fact, I have come to wonder whether Inche Khir Johari would pass the Standard V assessment Test if he sits for it!
Inche Khir Johari is the most illiterate Education Minister in the world, and it seems to be his ambition to ensure that the new generation of Malaysians becomes as illiterate as he is. Continue reading Khir Johari unfit to look after the education of our children

Party Rakyat and Inche Hasnul

Press Statement by DAP Organising Secretary and Parliamentary Candidate for Bandar Melaka, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, on April 24, 1969:

The Party Rakyat and its Parliamentary Candidate for Bandar Melaka, Inche Hasnul bin Hadi, have started attacking me and my party at their rallies and election campaign. Inche Hasnul has asked me a few questions.

I will answer these questions in the course of the campaign, but as this is my first public pronouncement on the Party Rakyat, I wish to put on record a few points first.

Before Nomination Day on 5th April 1969, we in the DAP reached and electoral understanding, first with the People’s Progressive Party, and later with the Gerakan Ra’ayat Malaysia, to avoid three-cornered election fights which can only benefit the Alliance because of split opposition votes.

The DAP was also prepared to reach an electoral understanding with the Party Rakyat, but the Party Rakyat spurned and rejected having anything to do with an electoral understanding with the DAP. The Party Rakyat was determined that in Bandar Melaka Parliamentary Constituency, there should be a three- cornered fight. What are the motives for the Party Rakyat decision, only Party Rakyat officials will know. I leave it to the people to draw their own conclusions. Continue reading Party Rakyat and Inche Hasnul
