Both the penang Chief Minister Dr. Koh tsu Koon and the MPPP President Datuk Tan Gim Hwa seem to be acting in concert in wanting to give the people the impression that the demolition of Hotel Metropole is not so serious , outrageous and scandalous in view of the two earlier cases of demolition of heritage buildings in George Town. Did the new owners of Hotel Metropole submit an appeal to rebuild only the façade and not the entire building, and if not why was the MPPP order to rebuild the entire Hotel Metropole in six months transformed in nine short days into an order to merely rebuild its façade.

Is Tsu koon advocating that Penang practice facadism as replacement of heritage building conservation – where the façade of Hotel Metropole need not be kept at the original site and could be moved and preserved in a museum?

Pennag Chief Minister , Dr. Koh Tsu Koon should explain how he could justify the MPPP decision last Oct 28 to surreptitiously remove Hotel Metropole from the 1989 MPPP list of 20 heritahe buildings which prohibited demolition or development , and plced in a new Category 2 List which allowed its demolition and redevelopment provided its façade is preserved. The latest press conference yesterday by the MPPP President , Datuk Tan Gim Hwa on the hotel Metropole demolition scandal is proof that the Penang Gerakan leadership has become very panicky about the DA excuse of the various MPPP and State Government scandals, and in particular the Hotel Metropole demolition scandal , as they have hit very soft spots of the Gerakan leaders.
