I call on the Prime minister, Datuk Seri Mahathir Mohamad, to heed the criticism and advice of former Lord President, Tun Suffian, in Star that the Government should use the court fines to build more court houses and hire more judges, court presidents and magistrates to clear the backlog of cases. I congratulate Anwar Ibrahim on his decisive 194-vote majority victory over Syed Hamid Albar as UMNO Youth Leader. I regret however that Anwar Ibrahim had to make a rather extremist speech before the UMNO Youth elections, presenting the image that he is more a Malay political leader than a Malaysian political leader. Reports that MAS might be given the traffic rights to operate the lucrative Kuala Lumpur route, formerly held by Mac Air which had collapsed, has raised anxieties of former Mac air pilots and engineers as MAS has indicated that it would not employ the Mac Air pilots. In the co-operative finance scandal, 540,000 depositors and members face the prospect of losing the bulk of their $1.6 billion deposits, because of the fraud, breach of trust, abuse of power and irresponsibility of certain directors and officers of co-operatives.
