Call on Inspector-General of Police to hold a public Inquiry into the shocking case PEE CHING CHOW who was released from Pulau Jerejak on completion of two years’ detention and returned to his Segamat family as a corpse; and Call on public-spirited Malaysians to donate generously for the educational fund of the four Pee children

I call this Press Conference to make public, and to call on the Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Haniff Omar, to institute a public inquiry into the shocking case of PEE CHING CHOW, 32, a sub-contractor from 254, Bukit Siput New Village, Segamat, Johore, who was released from Pulau Jerejak on completion of two years’ detention and returned to his waiting family in Bukit Siput, Segamat, as a corpse. I note with interest the statement by the MCA Youth Headquarters in Kluang, Johore, yesterday, that they are deeply concerned about the death sentence passed on the 14-year-old condemned boy from Penang. for unlawful possession of a pistol and ammunition, and their offer of help. At the request of the parents of the 14-year-old condemned DAP to await outcome of Privy Council appeal before launching a national signature campaign and international sympathy campaign to commute death sentence of the boy to a few years in a Reform School so as not to prejudge the Privy Council appeal

This is the third Press Conference that I have called in connection with the 14-year-old condemned, the first one on 10th September 1977 in Penang announcing the intention of the DAP to start a mass nation-wide signature campaign to get the boy out of the death cell in Penang Prisons pending appeal; the second one on 14th Sept. 1977 in Kuala Lumpur announcing the official launching of the mass nation-wide signature campaign to get the condemned boy out of the death cell. The response from the Government had been rapid, for the condemned boy was taken out of the death cell after the launching of the campaign on Sept. 14. Although various consumer bodies have been formed in the country, the consumers continues to be a very exploited lot, as can be seen by the spiraling of prices of goods, increase in fares of bus an taxis, constant breakdown of essential services or low quality of goods or service.
