Tun Tan Siew Sin, Finance Minister failures

Speech by DAP Organising Secretary, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, at the Sungei Way DAP Public Rally on Saturday, 21st September 1968 at 8.30 p.m.

Before he left for London to attend the Commonwealth Economic Consultative Council yesterday (Friday, September 20), the Finance Minister, Tun Tan Siew Sin, announced that the Cabinet has set up a committee to cut down wasteful and unnecessary government expenditure.

We seem to be hearing this every time Tun Tan is interviewed at the airport before leaving for some foreign conference. If we look back the old files and Hansards, we will find that this is exactly the thing which the Finance Minister and had been saying for the last ten years. Nantah and Formosan qualifications, the Merdeka University and the MCA College

Speech by DAP Organising Secretary, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, to members and supporters in Tangkak, Johore, on Thursday, September 19, 1968 at 8 p.m.

Nantah and Formosan qualifications, the Merdeka University and the MCA College.

During the 1964 general elections campaign, an Alliance Minister solemnly pledged that the government would inquire into the standards of Nanyang University to see if it could be accorded recognition after the general elections.

More than four years have passed, and the next general elections is approaching. But the Nantah qualifications, and the Formosan qualifications, have still to be considered by any government committee for recognition. DAP calls for White Paper on defence future and planning

Speech by DAP Organising Secretary, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, to the Segamat DAP Branch on Sunday, September 15, 1968 at 8 p.m.

DAP calls for White Paper on defence future and planning

The Australian Cabinet is now studying a report drawn up by Australian defence planners to decide, in the light of British defence withdrawal from South East Asia in 1971, whether Australia should participate in a collective defence arrangement in this region, or whether she should also withdraw to an isolationist “Fortress Australia” concept.

Assuming that the Australian Cabinet decides to join in the regional collectives defence arrangement, there is nothing to prevent this decision from being reversed at a later date, if Australians decide that this is to their own best interest. Razak’s “new breed of Malaysians”

Speech by DAP Organising Secretary, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, to the Segamat DAP Branch on Wednesday, September 11, 1968 at 7.30 p.m.

Razak’s “new breed of Malaysians”

In his Merdeka Day message, the Deputy Prime Minister, Tun Abdul Rahman, said that 11 years of Alliance rule have resulted in a “new breed of Malaysians who identify themselves as Malaysians first and as Chinese, Malaya or Indians second.”

How comforting and reassuring this is if what Tun Abdul Razak said is true, because we are then breaking down the racial barriers and prejudices which divide Malaysians from Malaysians. Continue reading Razak’s “new breed of Malaysians”

Speech by DAP Organising Secretary, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, at the Women’s Day Celebrations organised by the Klang DAP Branch held at the Klang DAP Branch premises, 27B Jalan Raja Hassan, Klang on Sunday, 8th September at 7 p.m.

The objective of Gerakan Ra’ayat Malaysia: An Indonesian Malaysia

It is important that party members and supporters understand the basic objectives of the various political parties in Malaysia.

Tonight, I wish to discuss with you the objectives of the Gerakan Ra’ayat Malaysia.

From the public pronouncements of Gerakan leaders, it appears that the Gerakan Ra’ayat Malaysia is trying to achieve, not a Malaysian Malaysia of the DAP, but an Indonesian Malaysia. Continue reading The objective of Gerakan Ra’ayat Malaysia: An Indonesian Malaysia

Another Alliance Govt Low Cost Housing Scheme

The advertisement “Another Alliance Govt. Low Cost Housing Scheme” at the Circular Road low-cost housing scheme is an unashamed attempt by the Alliance Party to make use of government money and resources to advertise itself to win votes at the next elections.

This clearly shows that the government does not know the difference between government and party. It is also for this reason why we have no faith in the impartiality of the government in playing fair in the next general elections.

As in the past, the Alliance Party will make use of public funds, resources and even personnel to help in its party campaign, before and during general elections.

This is in the same class as when government Ministers go around schools before general elections to distribute money to buy votes. Continue reading Another Alliance Govt Low Cost Housing Scheme

DAP offers to put up MCA posters free of charge

The DAP Organising Secretary, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, today (6.9.68) issued the following statement:

The MCA membership drive chairman, Mr. Lee San Choon, was reported in the Straits Times today as describing the DAP Poster War with the MCA as a “panicky and jealous act.”

Mr. Lee wants to mislead himself and the public. The DAP is the least concerned about the MCA membership drive to spend $30,000 to get 50,000 new members.

In fact, the DAP has called on the hundreds of thousands of unemployed in Malaysia to join the MCA, because the $10,000 which the MCA is giving out as prize-money, will come in handy and useful as relief money for the unemployed. Continue reading DAP offers to put up MCA posters free of charge
