DAP calls on Tun Razak to issue a directive to all State Government to cancel all pleasure trips abroad for State Assemblymen

Press Statement by DAP Secretary-General & Member of Parliament for Bandar Melaka, Mr. Lim Kit Siang on 1st November 1971

DAP calls on Tun Razak to issue a directive to all State Government to cancel all pleasure trips abroad for State Assemblymen

When the Prime Minister, Tun Abdul Razak, spoke to heads of Ministries and government departments at a briefing at the National Operations Room in Kuala Lumpur two days ago, he told them to ‘cut down their trips abroad and concentrate on work at home.’ He said too many senior government officials were making frequent trips abroad.

We in the DAP hope that the Prime Minister will implement his instructions. The most guilty people, however, are the Ministers, Assistant Ministers and the other top government leaders who seem to take every conceivable opportunity to go overseas at public expense to enjoy themselves. The Alliance and the MCA have in the last five years tried all tactics and stratagems to destroy the DAP, which they see as their greatest threat and challenge.

They have tried arbitrary detention. In 1969 after my election as Member of Parliament for Bandar Melaka, I was detained for 17 months under the Internal Security Act for no crime other than voicing the people’s hopes, grievances and sorrows. Continue reading Persecution of DAP Leaders

DAP reply to the purported MCA factual account of MCA/DAP talks

DAP Secretary-General, Mr.Lim Kit Siang, M.P. today issued the following statement:

DAP reply to the purported MCA factual account of MCA/DAP talks

Tun Tan Siew Sin’s statement yesterday and the statement by MCA Secretary-General today, purporting to give ‘a factual’ account of recent MCA/DAP meetings is a tissue of distortions, half-truths and downright falsehood.

Although I have great political differences with Tun Tan Siew Sin, I have had until yesterday some respect for him as a man of honour and uprightness.

From his denial yesterday and the account his Secretary-General has given, Tun Tan has stooped to distortions and falsehoods to try to put the MCA in the nest light possible. This is a highly contemptible action. These are very strong words, and I would not have lightly used them, particularly against a national political leader and a Minister of more than 10 years’ standing. It pains me therefore to have to use these words to describe Tun Tan Siew Sin. Continue reading DAP reply to the purported MCA factual account of MCA/DAP talks

Press Conference Statement in Parliament House Committee Room 2 at 5.30 p.m.

DAP deplores and condemns government decision to abolish local authorities in Malaysia

The DAP calls on the Minister to immediately table the Athi Nahappan Report and to give Members of Parliament a chance to debate a matter which concerns the life and death of grass-roots democracy in Malaysia. Contemptible Parliamentary Tactics

Contemptible Parliamentary Tactics

West Malaysian Members of Parliament were informed today tat their notices of questions for oral and written answers and motions submitted in the English language have been rejected.

In a letter to MPs today, the clerk to the Dewan Ra’ayat, Inche Ahmad bin Abdullah, said these notices must be in Bahasa Malaysia in
accordance with the provisions of the National Language Act, 1967.

The National Language Act, 1967 does not prohibit MPs from submitting notices of questions and motions in English.

In fact, MPs had good reasons to believe that English could be used in notices of question and motions. Continue reading Contemptible Parliamentary Tactics

Alliance masterplan, religious persecutions & 1971 Budget

Statement by DAP Secretary-General and Member of Parliament for Bandar Melaka, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, at a press conference held at 86, Jonker street, Malacca, on Monday, 21st December 1970 at 10.30 a.m.

Alliance masterplan to buy over DAP MPs and State Assemblymen

The Alliance has a masterplan to buy over DAP MPs and State Assemblymen to defect to the Alliance.

Alliance intermediaries are approaching DAP MPs and State Assemblymen with offers of money, position, office and economic inducements to persuade them to cross over to the Alliance. In some cases, these material inducements are not so direct and blatant, the approach made seemingly on an intellectual level. But underlying these approaches even, the material inducements is held out indirectly. Continue reading Alliance masterplan, religious persecutions & 1971 Budget
