Notice to move a motion of censure against Tun Tan Siew Sin if he imposes taxes without Parliamentary approval

Despite DAP and widespread public protests, the Finance Minister, Tun Tan Siew Sin, seems bent in his refusal to present the 1971 Ordinary Budget to Parliament for debate and approval. Tun Tan will only present his 1971 Ordinary Budget to National Operations Council on Dec. 18. where he need not justify his financial policies and new taxes to the elected representatives of the people. A Challenge to Mr. Khaw Khai Boh

Speech by DAP Organising Secretary, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, at a DAP Public Rally at Ipoh Road, 4 ½ m.s., Kuala Lumpur on Friday, 21st March 1969 at 9 p.m.

In his speech at Kampong Lompang two days ago, the Minister for Local Government and Housing, Mr. Khaw Kai Boh, asked the DAP to explain its language stand.

Mr. Khaw wanted to know why the DAP was opposed to the Alliance Putting up multi-lingual propaganda on top of the multi-storey Circular Road housing flats, when the DAP claimed that it was fighting for equal use and status of the four languages.

I had not expected Mr. Khaw Kai Boh to be so naïve. What the DAP objected to was not the four languages bring used on the Circular Road housing blocks, but to the blatant Alliance propaganda on public housing flats, as the words were: “Another Alliance low-cost housing achievement.”

In the first place, the Circular Road housing flats are not ‘low-costs’ ones. They are high-cost flats. Continue reading A Challenge to Mr. Khaw Khai Boh

Tun Tan Siew Sin, Finance Minister failures

Speech by DAP Organising Secretary, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, at the Sungei Way DAP Public Rally on Saturday, 21st September 1968 at 8.30 p.m.

Before he left for London to attend the Commonwealth Economic Consultative Council yesterday (Friday, September 20), the Finance Minister, Tun Tan Siew Sin, announced that the Cabinet has set up a committee to cut down wasteful and unnecessary government expenditure.

We seem to be hearing this every time Tun Tan is interviewed at the airport before leaving for some foreign conference. If we look back the old files and Hansards, we will find that this is exactly the thing which the Finance Minister and had been saying for the last ten years. DAP calls for inquiry into detention and confiscation of film of Utusan Melayu photographer

DAP calls for commission of inquiry into detention and confiscation of film of Utusan Melayu photographer

The DAP deplores in the strongest terms the high-handed action of the police and army in detaining for over two hours a Utusan Melayu photographer, Enche Daim bin Abdullah, who was discharging his duty as press photographer, and in confiscating his film, at the Jalan Gurney recruiting centre yesterday.

This is a clear case of abuse of police and security powers. Police and security powers are not meant to allow the police and the army authorities to censor and obstruct the work of journalists from exposing their inefficiency and incompetence. Police and security powers, like detaining people, are meant to be used with utmost discretion, and only in cases where it can be justified. Proposed abolition of constitutional appeals to the Privy Council – the tyranny of the majority

Talk by DAP Organising Secretary, Mr Lim Kit Siang, to the Seremban DAP Branch premises on Sunday, July 7 at 3 p.m. to discuss preparations for the coming general election.

The first time the Alliance government tried to abolish constitutional appeals to the Privy Council was in 1965, when the Alliance government was known to be seriously thinking of resorting to unconstitutional methods to take over the Singapore government from the People’s Action Party.

For over a year previously, the People’s Action Party has mounted in Malaysia an ever-growing political and democratic challenge to the very basis of Alliance power. Continue reading Proposed abolition of constitutional appeals to the Privy Council – the tyranny of the majority

“Do as I say but don’t do as I do”

Speech by DAP Organising Secretary, Mr. Lim Kim Siang, at the Pudu DAP branch on Monday, June 17 at 8 p.m. Pudu DAP Branch is the latest branch in Selangor to be registered. It is the 15th branch in the Selangor.

The Minister of Education, Inche Khir bin Johari, has called on teacher’s union to draw up a code of ethics as soon as possible.

He claimed that there are many “unethical practices” among teachers.

Inche Khir bin Johari is deliberately vague about his charges of “unethical practices.”

Unless these “unethical practices” are spelt out publicly, Inche Khir bin Johari’s charge can only be regarded as his latest in a long series of attempts to demoralise and undermine public confidence in the teachers. This can benefit no one, apart from, Inche Khir bin Johari. Continue reading “Do as I say but don’t do as I do”

All-party financial watchdog committee

Talk by DAP Organising Secretary, Mr Lim Kit Siang, to members of the Ipoh DAP Branch on Sunday, June 16 at 10 a.m.

A fortnight ago, the Minister of Finance, Tun Tan Siew Sin, warned Malaysians to concentrate on essentials and to be “more utilitarian” as “cash is running out with the time” in Malaysia.

The person who should take most heed of this warning is none other Tun Tan Siew Sin himself. For cash ran out during Tun Tan Siew Sin’s tenure as Minister of Finance. As a result, Tun Tan introduced Malaysia into the era of deficit financing, piling up loans – a policy which mortgaged the future generations to pay for the present.

Malaysia would not today face her most serious financial crisis if Alliance leaders had the foresight and intelligence to cut out all wasteful projects ever since they came into office after Independence. Continue reading All-party financial watchdog committee
