Call on Inspector-General of Police to hold a public Inquiry into the shocking case PEE CHING CHOW who was released from Pulau Jerejak on completion of two years’ detention and returned to his Segamat family as a corpse; and Call on public-spirited Malaysians to donate generously for the educational fund of the four Pee children

I call this Press Conference to make public, and to call on the Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Haniff Omar, to institute a public inquiry into the shocking case of PEE CHING CHOW, 32, a sub-contractor from 254, Bukit Siput New Village, Segamat, Johore, who was released from Pulau Jerejak on completion of two years’ detention and returned to his waiting family in Bukit Siput, Segamat, as a corpse. The State of Perak has got a new Mentri Besar today, in the person of Wan Mohamed Wan Teh, Assemblymen for Temenggor. But what else has the people got? Will they get a Government of able, dedicated, self-sacrificing government leaders who are honest, incorruptible and man of undoubted integrity? Although the Public Services Tribunal Bill 1977 passed through the Dewan Rakyat on July 26 and the Dewan Negara on August 8, the Government has not yet appointed the Chairman of the Public Services Tribunal and the panel members who are to be entrusted with the task of inquiring into and resolving anomalies affecting the remunerations and terms and conditions of service in the public service as a result of the implementation of the Mahathir Cabinet Committee Report. Last weekend, together with the DAP MP for Ipoh, Sdr Lim Cho Hock and the DAP State Assemblymen for Gopeng, Sdr P.Patto, I visited the Ipoh General Hospital to see a 17-year old boy from Jalong New Village, Sungei Siput, Leong Choon Hwa, who was injured and hospitalised on 13.8.1977.

Lim Kit Siang calls for full public inquiry into the police shoot-out in the heart of Ipoh town on August 13, and asks for a meeting with Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Haniff Omar

Last weekend, when I was in Ipoh, I found the general Ipoh public very agitated and angry about the indiscriminate police public shooting in the heart of Ipoh town on August 13 of police escapees causing three deaths and one serious injury.

Wherever I went in Ipoh, the members of the public came up to me to register their revulsion and strong reaction against the police handling of the incident – although the incident took place two weeks previously.
