Razak’s “new breed of Malaysians”

Speech by DAP Organising Secretary, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, to the Segamat DAP Branch on Wednesday, September 11, 1968 at 7.30 p.m.

Razak’s “new breed of Malaysians”

In his Merdeka Day message, the Deputy Prime Minister, Tun Abdul Rahman, said that 11 years of Alliance rule have resulted in a “new breed of Malaysians who identify themselves as Malaysians first and as Chinese, Malaya or Indians second.”

How comforting and reassuring this is if what Tun Abdul Razak said is true, because we are then breaking down the racial barriers and prejudices which divide Malaysians from Malaysians. Continue reading Razak’s “new breed of Malaysians”

The objective of Gerakan Ra’ayat Malaysia: An Indonesian Malaysia

Speech by DAP Organising Secretary, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, at the Women’s Day Celebrations organised by the Klang DAP Branch held at the Klang DAP Branch premises, 27B Jalan Raja Hassan, Klang on Sunday, 8th September at 7 p.m.

The objective of Gerakan Ra’ayat Malaysia: An Indonesian Malaysia

It is important that party members and supporters understand the basic objectives of the various political parties in Malaysia.

Tonight, I wish to discuss with you the objectives of the Gerakan Ra’ayat Malaysia.

From the public pronouncements of Gerakan leaders, it appears that the Gerakan Ra’ayat Malaysia is trying to achieve, not a Malaysian Malaysia of the DAP, but an Indonesian Malaysia. Continue reading The objective of Gerakan Ra’ayat Malaysia: An Indonesian Malaysia

Another Alliance Govt Low Cost Housing Scheme

The advertisement “Another Alliance Govt. Low Cost Housing Scheme” at the Circular Road low-cost housing scheme is an unashamed attempt by the Alliance Party to make use of government money and resources to advertise itself to win votes at the next elections.

This clearly shows that the government does not know the difference between government and party. It is also for this reason why we have no faith in the impartiality of the government in playing fair in the next general elections.

As in the past, the Alliance Party will make use of public funds, resources and even personnel to help in its party campaign, before and during general elections.

This is in the same class as when government Ministers go around schools before general elections to distribute money to buy votes. Continue reading Another Alliance Govt Low Cost Housing Scheme

DAP offers to put up MCA posters free of charge

The DAP Organising Secretary, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, today (6.9.68) issued the following statement:

The MCA membership drive chairman, Mr. Lee San Choon, was reported in the Straits Times today as describing the DAP Poster War with the MCA as a “panicky and jealous act.”

Mr. Lee wants to mislead himself and the public. The DAP is the least concerned about the MCA membership drive to spend $30,000 to get 50,000 new members.

In fact, the DAP has called on the hundreds of thousands of unemployed in Malaysia to join the MCA, because the $10,000 which the MCA is giving out as prize-money, will come in handy and useful as relief money for the unemployed. Continue reading DAP offers to put up MCA posters free of charge

Where the DAP differs with the Alliance and the Gerakan: that Malaysia should be a multi-lingual and multi-cultural nation practicing cultural democracy

Speech by DAP Organising Secretary, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, at the DAP eleventh Merdeka Anniversary Celebrations held at the Sentral DAP Branch premises, 632-A Jalan Sentul, Kuala Lumpur, on Wednesday, August 28 at 7.30 p.m.

While celebrating the 11th Merdeka Anniversary of Malaysia, we must pause and take stock of what progress we have made in our eleven years of independent nationhood.

In my mind, the crucial question to ask is: are we getting a more Malaysian-minded or a more race-motivated nation? Continue reading Where the DAP differs with the Alliance and the Gerakan: that Malaysia should be a multi-lingual and multi-cultural nation practicing cultural democracy

Operation Registration

Speech by DAP Organising Secretary, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, to the Jelupang DAP Branch on Sunday, August 18, 1968 at 8 p.m.

The Democratic Action Party will launch a nation-wide campaign from September 1 to October 10 to get citizens who have not registered as voters to register themselves.

This will be the last chance to register before the next general elections. It is the basic duty of a citizen in a democratic country to exercise his vote in elections, to take part in the democratic process of deciding how this country is to be governed. Continue reading Operation Registration

DAP makes a bid for the Negri Sembilan State Government

Speech by Editor of the Rocket, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, and DAP Organising Secretary, at the Second Anniversary Celebrations of the Rocket journal by the Seremban DAP Branch on Friday, August 16 at 7 p.m.

On June 30, the UMNO Secretary-General, Inche Khir bin Johari, warned UMNO members in Johol that Negri Sembilan is a “danger” state for the Alliance, and that the Democratic Action Party might capture the State Government in the next elections.

This is the measure and extent of the impact the Democratic Action Party, under the dedicated and distinguished leadership of Dr. Chen Man Hin, and support of DAP members and supporters, has made in a short period of slightly over two years. Bukit Rambai DAP Branch protem committee

Speech by DAP Organising Secretary, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, at the inaugural meeting of the protem committee of the Bukit Rambai DAP Branch, Malacca, on Wednesday, August 8, 1968 at 8 p.m.

The formation of the protem committee of the Bukit Rambai DAP Branch marks yet another milestone in the steady expansion of the democratic socialist movement in Malaysia.

In the short period of slightly over two years since the formation of the Democratic Action Party, we have given new hope to thinking Malaysians that a new political force has emerged on the Malaysian scene, which has the brain power, organisation, stamina and youth to defeat the forces of reaction, inequality, injustice and racialism which has dominated this country since independence. Proposed abolition of constitutional appeals to the Privy Council – the tyranny of the majority

Talk by DAP Organising Secretary, Mr Lim Kit Siang, to the Seremban DAP Branch premises on Sunday, July 7 at 3 p.m. to discuss preparations for the coming general election.

The first time the Alliance government tried to abolish constitutional appeals to the Privy Council was in 1965, when the Alliance government was known to be seriously thinking of resorting to unconstitutional methods to take over the Singapore government from the People’s Action Party.

For over a year previously, the People’s Action Party has mounted in Malaysia an ever-growing political and democratic challenge to the very basis of Alliance power. Continue reading Proposed abolition of constitutional appeals to the Privy Council – the tyranny of the majority

Various attempts to break-up DAP – PPP electoral pact

Talk by DAP Organising Secretary, Mr Lim Kit Siang, to the Perak State Sub-Committee at Ipoh on Sunday, May 19 at 11 a.m.

There have been various attempts to predict or engineer the break – up of the electoral pact reached between the Democratic Action Party and the People’s Progressive Party.

The Perak Mentri Besar said he was confident that the DAP – PPP electoral pact would not last long.

This is the fond hope and wish of the Alliance and MCA politicians and leaders. They want opposition parties to fight one another, split opposition votes, and allow the Alliance and MCA candidates to win by default. Continue reading Various attempts to break-up DAP – PPP electoral pact
