Speech by DAP State Assemblyman for KUBU, Lim Kit Siang, in the Malacca State Assembly on 26th Nov, 1975 on his motion.

Sri Lingga Affair – Blatant Case of High-Level political leaders making use of public positions and resources for their self-benefit.

I rise to move the following motions. That the House, to ensure that the kampong people in Kuala Sungai Baru and the surrounding areas are not exploited by a small group of well-to-do and influential Bumiputras, resolves that the State Government take back the 3,300 acres of land allocated to Syarikat Sri Lingga Sdn. Bhd. in Kuala Sungai Baru, so that the land could be used to bring direct benefits to the people in Kuala Sungai Baru and the surrounding areas by directly alienating to the kampong people either for collective or co-operative means of agricultural development. Tun Razak promises to investigate into corrupt practices and cheating of 1,500 Machap Umboo new villagers of their rightful compensation for government land acquisition

Tun Razak promises to investigate into corrupt practices and cheating of 1,500 Machap Umboo new villagers of their rightful compensation for government land acquisition

I met the Prime Minister, Tun Razak, in Parliament on Monday, and reported to him of corrupt practices in the question of compensation to the New Villagers of Machap Umboo New Village, as the entire village is being acquired by the State Water Authority for the Durian Tunggal water scheme. Some 1,500 people are affected by this scheme. Machap Umboo is about 18 miles from the Malacca town.

When I visited the Machap Umboo new village on 10th July, o found that the new villagers there were being cheated of their rightful compensation from the government. The majority of the Machap Umboo new villagers were ignorant of their rights. As a result, they were taken advantage of by a racket which came to tell them that they would get very low compensation for their houses, but that if they would pay 10% commission to ‘middle-men’ out of the total compensation after they had been raise upwards, the government would compensate them very much more. Speech by DAP Secretary-General and Member of Parliament for Bandar Melaka, Lim Kit Siang, at a DAP Public Rally at Mambang di-Awan, Kampar, on Sunday, 7th July 1974 at 9 p.m.

DAP calls on the Government to abolish surtax on motor spare parts, tyres and other accessories and the slash the import duties on diesel to prevent increase of bus and taxi fares and other transport charges to forestall another inflationary spiral

With the recent government approval for another eight cents a gallon increase for diesel, taxi operators, bus companies and other transport firms are pressing for an increase of fares and transport charges.

This will not only add to the very heavy burden of the poor, but will in turn spark off another chain action of price increases. DAP Calls for a new National and State Land Policy to give land to the landless

Speech by Opposition leader and DAP Secretary-General, Mr. Lim Kit Siang to members and supporters at Tanjong Rambutan, Perak, on Friday, 5th October, 1973, at 8 p.m. during the formation of the DAP Tanjong Rambutan Protem Committee

DAP Calls for a new National and State Land Policy to give land to the landless

Malaysia is primarily an agricultural country, and we are still rich in undeveloped land resources. According to one official estimate, there are still 30000000 acres of land suitable for development in Malaysia.

We should make full use of our land resources to improve the lot of the poor. Unfortunately, the Alliance policy is not very different from the old colonial policy which uses land as an instrument to benefit the landed interests and the foreign and local monopoly capitalist class – which the mass of the poor are left destitute and landless.

The authorities concerned have no second thoughts about alienating hundreds and even thousands of acres of land each to the genuine landless, all sorts of noble reasons are found against it. Continue reading DAP Calls for a new National and State Land Policy to give land to the landless
