The defection of Lee Beng Cheang

Statement by DAP Secretary-General, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, held at a Press Conference held at DAP Kuala Lumpur Branch at 63-D Jalan Sultan, Kuala Lumpur on Friday, 4th February 1972 at 12.30 p.m.

The defection of Lee Beng Cheang

I have not received any letter of resignation from Lee Beng Cheang. In Fact, he seems to have gone into hiding. It is noteworthy that at the MCA press conference yesterday announcing Lee Beng Cheang’s defection to the MCA, Lee Beng Cheang was himself absent.

In a way I feel sorry for Lee Beng Cheang. I believe he was blackmailed and forced into his present action. If I know Lee Beng Cheang, he is the most miserable man in public life today. Continue reading The defection of Lee Beng Cheang

Use of school building for Alliance meetings

On 12th December 1971, the Sungai Way direct Alliance membership Party held a political meeting at the Sungai Way National-type (Chinese) primary school.

According to the press reports after the meeting, among those who were invited and attended were Alliance politicians such as Senator Tan Sr. T.H.Tan, Raja Nong Chik, the Sungai Way MCA Branch Chairman, the Chairman of the Board of Management of the school, and even the school’s headmaster himself. DAP’s role in Penang

Speech by DAP Secretary-General and Member of Parliament for Bandar Melaka, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, at a DAP public rally at Dato Kramat padang in Penang on Saturday, 6th November 1971 at 10 p.m.

DAP’s role in Penang

During the May 1969 General Elections, the DAP, through an electoral understanding, helped the Gerakan Ra’ayat Malaysia, then led by Dr. Syed Hussein Alatas, Dr. Tan Chee Khoon, Dr. Lim Chong Eu, Mr. V. Veerappen and Mr. Yeoh Teck Chye, to capture the Penang State Government from the Alliance. Continue reading DAP’s role in Penang

Barbed wires in the people’s hearts and minds

Speech by DAP Secretary-General and Member of Parliament for Bandar Melaka, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, when officially opening the Penang Selatan Branch at 359, Perak Road, Jelutong, on Saturday, 6th Nov. 1971 at 4 p.m.

Barbed wires in the people’s hearts and minds

Barbed wires have gone up in Tanah Hitam New Village in Perak, and the country is swiftly returning to the old Emergency days.

Even more serious than the barbed wires the Alliance Government has now fenced off the Tanah Hitam new village, however, are the barbed wires which the Alliance government has put up in the hearts and minds of the people of Malaysia over the past decade through its undemocratic and oppressive policies. DAP to stamp out political parasites

Speech by DAP Secretary-General and Member of Parliament for Bandar Melaka, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, at the Seremban DAP Branch on Saturday, 30th Oct. 1971 before starting on his two-day inspection tour of the Seremban Timor Parliamentary constituency

DAP to stamp out political parasites

Seremban Timor Parliamentary constituency, which includes the two DAP State seats of Rahang and Sungei Ujong, is my third visit in my national tour of all DAP parliamentary and State constituencies to check on the constituency performance of Dap Members of Parliament and State Assemblymen, and to seek public views as to how DAP constituency service can be further improved.

The people had high hopes of the DAP when they voted solidly for the DAP candidates in the 1969 general elections. It is the resolve of the DAP Central Executive Committee that every DAP Member of Parliament and State Assemblymen should live up to the public expectations, and conscientiously serve the people, party and country. Call on Alliance puppet government of Dr. Lim Chong Eu to resign and hold fresh State general elections

Speech by DAP Malacca State Chairman and Member of Parliament for Bandar Melaka, Mr Lim Kit Siang, at a DAP Public Rally in Penang at the Esplanade on Sunday, 5th September 1971 at 8pm

Call on Alliance puppet government of Dr. Lim Chong Eu to resign and hold fresh State general elections

In October last year, during my last visit to Penang, I had occasion to describe the Gerakan government of Dr. Lim Chong Eu as “more Alliance than the Alliance” in its complete disregard of the suffering and hardship of the ordinary people, its high-handed treatment of Opposition views and those who fall victim to its policies and measures.

Today, about a year later, there has been deterioration in the character of the Gerakan Government in Penang. It has become an Alliance puppet government, completely at the mercy of the four UMNO State Assemblymen in Penang. Persecution of DAP Leaders

Speech by DAO Secretary-General, Mr.Lim Kit Siang, at a meeting of Kinta DAP Branches of Tapah, Kampar, Membang di-Awan, Ipog, Lawan Kuda Bahru N/V, Jelapang N/V, Tanjong Tuallang, Papan, Sungei Durian, Batu Gajah, Pusing and Bali N/V held Kampar DAP Branch premises on Thursday, 22nd July 1971 at 7.30 p.m.

The Alliance and the MCA have in the last five years tried all tactics and stratagems to destroy the DAP, which they see as their greatest threat and challenge.

They have tried arbitrary detention. In 1969 after my election as Member of Parliament for Bandar Melaka, I was detained for 17 months under the Internal Security Act for no crime other than voicing the people’s hopes, grievances and sorrows. Continue reading Persecution of DAP Leaders

Renewed challenge to Tun Tan Siew Sin

Press Statement by Lim Kit Siang, M.P., Secretary-General DAP.

Renewed challenge to Tun Tan Siew Sin

Last Saturday, I have had occasion to challenge Tun Tan Siew Sin to stake his entire political reputation and career on who asked for the meeting between us at the Commonwealth Society Building on March 7.

This is important because if this can be established, it will be clear which side has been telling untruths and fabricating stories.

Three days ago, Tun Tan said in Parliament that I had asked to see him at the Royal Commonwealth Society “but did not turn up because he was afraid that he might be seen by others.” Continue reading Renewed challenge to Tun Tan Siew Sin

DAP reply to the purported MCA factual account of MCA/DAP talks

DAP Secretary-General, Mr.Lim Kit Siang, M.P. today issued the following statement:

DAP reply to the purported MCA factual account of MCA/DAP talks

Tun Tan Siew Sin’s statement yesterday and the statement by MCA Secretary-General today, purporting to give ‘a factual’ account of recent MCA/DAP meetings is a tissue of distortions, half-truths and downright falsehood.

Although I have great political differences with Tun Tan Siew Sin, I have had until yesterday some respect for him as a man of honour and uprightness.

From his denial yesterday and the account his Secretary-General has given, Tun Tan has stooped to distortions and falsehoods to try to put the MCA in the nest light possible. This is a highly contemptible action. These are very strong words, and I would not have lightly used them, particularly against a national political leader and a Minister of more than 10 years’ standing. It pains me therefore to have to use these words to describe Tun Tan Siew Sin. Continue reading DAP reply to the purported MCA factual account of MCA/DAP talks

Bekok State by-election in Johore

Bekok State by-election in Johore

The Bekok state by-election campaign is a week-old. We stand an even chance of winning the state seat if we can concentrate our national manpower and resources in the constituency.

The stakes involves in Bekok are not merely local or even of State interest. They are of great national importance and significance, both for us in the DAP and for the Alliance, and in particular the MCA.

If we win in Bekok, it will mean a vindication and endorsement of our party stand in post-May 13 Malaysia and in Parliament over the Constitution Amendment Bill. Continue reading Bekok State by-election in Johore
