The Malacca Hospital mass deaths

I MOVE to cut the salary of the Minister of Health by $100.

On August 22, 1973, 1 called a press conference in my Malacca office making public the unusually high number of deaths in the Malacca Hospital during July and August last year, because of the breakdown of the hospital’s autoclave, i.e. sterilisation plant, leading to blood and saline poisoning of the patients.

I called for a public inquiry into the deaths, and into the negligence and maladministration of the Malacca Hospital which made such mass deaths possible. Continue reading The Malacca Hospital mass deaths

Speech by DAP Secretary-General and Member of Parliament for Bandar Melaka, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, at a Rembau-Tampin Parliamentary by-election public rally at Tampin New Village on 28th June 1972 at 9 p.m.

Why the country and people need a strong and dedicated opposition party in Parliament

The DAP has, over the last one year, demonstrated what a strong and dedicated Opposition Party in Parliament can do for the people.

For over 20 years, the 900,000 people in the 400-odd new villages in Malaysia had been neglected. They were starved of development funds, had no adequate health, social and educational facilities, no job opportunities for their youths, and were generally left to decay and die. The Finance Minister and MCA President, Tun Tan Siew Sin, said in Malacca yesterday that the Chinese in Malaysia need a mental revolution, and that the Chinese should end their political apathy and end their fence-sitting.

Challenge to MCA to declare its stand on proposed abolition of elected Municipal, town and local councils

Speech by DAP Secretary-General and Member of Parliament for Bandar Melaka, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, at a DAP public rally in Segamat on Tuesday, 9th November 1971, at 9 p.m.

Challenge to MCA to declare its stand on proposed abolition of elected Municipal, town and local councils

Up till today, the MCA has kept silent about the government’s proposed abolition of elected Municipal, town and local councils.

After the 1969 General Elections, the people were told that there is a new MCA, which is brave and dedicated to the interest of the people, unlike the old MCA which knows only how to kowtow to the orders of the Alliance government. The people were assured that the new MCA with a lot of new faces will bravely fight for the basic interests of the people, whatever the political price or the displeasure they may incur from the Alliance government. Lim Kit Siang to Alliance Ministers: Stop competing among yourselves as to who go overseas more often!

Speech by DAP Organising Secretary, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, at a DAP Public Rally at Pulau tikus Market, Penang on Thursday, 27th March 1969 at 9 p.m.

There is a competition among Alliance Ministers as to who travel abroad most often and stay overseas longest – at the taxpayers’ expenses!

The three Ministers who are way ahead of others in this Cabinet contest are Inche Khir Johari. Education Minister. Mr. Khaw Kai Boh, Housing Minister, and Inche Sardon bin Jubir, Transport Minister. It is no wonder that these three Ministries are in such terrible mess.

Inche Khir Johari is producing school children who, after sixe years of schooling, are hardly literate. Mr. Khaw Kai Boh build so few houses in the last five years that he had to put up huge advertisement boards throughout the country to boast about his so-called housing achievements. In the first four years of his office, Inche Khaw built 1,500 units per year –when in Singapore, the same numbers of houses are being built every month! As for Inche Sardon, his Malaysian railways is always in the red and the trains always late, while his ports are the terror and agony of all traders, because of their indescribable inefficiency, incompetence and corruption.
