Betrayal on Members

Speech by DAP Malacca State Chairman and Member of Parliament for Bandar Melaka, Mr Lim Kit Siang, at a meeting of the Malacca State DAP Sub-Committee on Monday, 9th August 1971 at 5pm

Last week, after seven members of the party in Malacca had declared their betrayal of the cause of the DAP, there was a deliberate and sustained campaign to try to get other DAP members and officials, particularly in the state of Malacca, to join them in a collective walk-out from the party.

During those few days of the campaign, I deliberately kept away from Malacca, although some of our comrades urged me to come to Malacca to counter this vicious and anti-party campaign. Continue reading Betrayal on Members

Public Rallies, DAP-MCA secret talks & Parliament

Speech by DAP Secretary-General and Member of Parliament for Bandar Melaka, Mr Lim Kit Siang, at the DAP Public Rally at Bandar Hilir Padang, Malacca, on Sunday, 1st August 1971 at 8pm

Public Rallies

This is not the first DAP public rally in Malacca after the 1969 General Elections, but the second one.

The people of Malacca will remember that two days after polling day, on May 12, 1969, the DAP held a victory rally at this very padang after a victory and thank-the-voters procession round the town the same afternoon. Continue reading Public Rallies, DAP-MCA secret talks & Parliament

Persecution of DAP Leaders

Speech by DAO Secretary-General, Mr.Lim Kit Siang, at a meeting of Kinta DAP Branches of Tapah, Kampar, Membang di-Awan, Ipog, Lawan Kuda Bahru N/V, Jelapang N/V, Tanjong Tuallang, Papan, Sungei Durian, Batu Gajah, Pusing and Bali N/V held Kampar DAP Branch premises on Thursday, 22nd July 1971 at 7.30 p.m.

The Alliance and the MCA have in the last five years tried all tactics and stratagems to destroy the DAP, which they see as their greatest threat and challenge.

They have tried arbitrary detention. In 1969 after my election as Member of Parliament for Bandar Melaka, I was detained for 17 months under the Internal Security Act for no crime other than voicing the people’s hopes, grievances and sorrows. Continue reading Persecution of DAP Leaders

DAP’S Belief

Speech by DAP Secretary-General and member of Parliament for Bandar Melaka, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, at a joint meeting of the Malacca State Sub-Committee and Malacca Rural Sub-Committee of the DAP at DAP Jonker Street Office on Saturday, 17th July, 1971 at 4pm.

Last December, at a dinner oganised for the DAP at Dewan Hang Tuah, Malacca, I publicly disclosed that Alliance and MCA operators had been trying to induce DAP Members of Parliament and State Assemblymen t defect from the DAP and join the ruling party with offers of office, position, status and wealth.

I had then mentioned the case of Sdr Bernard Sta Maria, DAP State Assemblyman for Kota Timor, who was offered a State Executive Councillorship in the Alliance State Government of Malacca.

Other DAP MPs and State Assemblymen in other States had also been approached by Alliance and MCA operators. Continue reading DAP’S Belief

DAP reply to the purported MCA factual account of MCA/DAP talks

DAP Secretary-General, Mr.Lim Kit Siang, M.P. today issued the following statement:

DAP reply to the purported MCA factual account of MCA/DAP talks

Tun Tan Siew Sin’s statement yesterday and the statement by MCA Secretary-General today, purporting to give ‘a factual’ account of recent MCA/DAP meetings is a tissue of distortions, half-truths and downright falsehood.

Although I have great political differences with Tun Tan Siew Sin, I have had until yesterday some respect for him as a man of honour and uprightness.

From his denial yesterday and the account his Secretary-General has given, Tun Tan has stooped to distortions and falsehoods to try to put the MCA in the nest light possible. This is a highly contemptible action. These are very strong words, and I would not have lightly used them, particularly against a national political leader and a Minister of more than 10 years’ standing. It pains me therefore to have to use these words to describe Tun Tan Siew Sin. Continue reading DAP reply to the purported MCA factual account of MCA/DAP talks

Constituency Service

Constituency Service

It is now over two years since our election as Member of Parliament or/ and State Assemblyman.

One of the hardest-hitting points we made during the 1969 general elections campaign was that the previous Alliance MPs/SAs were never really interested in the welfare and problems of the electorate, but were only making use of their elected positions to make money and feather their own nests.

We promised the country that the DAP, given a chance, will show the people the difference between DAP MPs/SAs and Alliance MPs/SAs: that the Alliance is a party of capitalists, feudalists and opportunists who are in politics because of the money, name, privilege and position that can be derived; while the DAP is a party of Malaysians who are in politics to serve the people. Role of State Sub-Committees

Role of State Sub-Committees

I attach a copy of a circular to all DAP MPs/SAs.

I am very concerned about the standard of constituency service of our MPs/SAs, I am equally concerned about the lack of supervision and direction on this very important matter by the State Sub-Committees.

The State Sub-Committee is the highest party organ in the state, and one of its important tasks should be to see to the faithful performance of constituency services by our MPs/SAs in the state. Unfortunately, this aspect of the duties of the State Sub-Committee has been gravely neglected. Continue reading Role of State Sub-Committees

Bekok State by-election in Johore

Bekok State by-election in Johore

The Bekok state by-election campaign is a week-old. We stand an even chance of winning the state seat if we can concentrate our national manpower and resources in the constituency.

The stakes involves in Bekok are not merely local or even of State interest. They are of great national importance and significance, both for us in the DAP and for the Alliance, and in particular the MCA.

If we win in Bekok, it will mean a vindication and endorsement of our party stand in post-May 13 Malaysia and in Parliament over the Constitution Amendment Bill. Continue reading Bekok State by-election in Johore
